Synopsis Based on a true story, a newborn is discovered in a wastebasket in a convent, with its umbilical cord around its neck. A court psychiatrist is brought in to determine if the baby’s mother is sane. The Mother Superior steps in and tries to help and protect a novice nun’s naiveté.
History Agnes of God is based on a 1979 play written by American playwright and screenwriter John Pielmeier. The play was first performed on Broadway in March of 1982. Pielmeier adapted his play for the movie. The play was subsequently novelized by Leonore Fleischer.
